Custom Operating Systems

Custom Operating Systems have been developed by EFILive to address tuning requirements that, until now, have not been possible. Custom Operating Systems are available free of charge for use by EFILive customers.

Installing a Custom Operating System requires a full operating system re-flash of the Controller into which the Custom Operating System is to be deployed using either FlashScan V2 or AutoCal.

 

Gen-IV (E38 & E67) Gasoline Custom Operating System

E38 and E67 custom operating systems offer the following features.

  • N20 switched Fuel and Spark tables.
  • Retain Traction Control operation when running in Speed Density mode.
  • Extend Cooling Fan operational range allows users to turn on cooling fans below factory limits. 
  • Anti-Theft (VATS) disable.

2 or 3 bar custom operating systems are not required for these controllers as the standard GM operating systems are designed to support forced induction motors.  EFILive has successfully mapped these features into our Virtual VE table.

 

Gen-III Gasoline Custom Operating Systems:

Speed Density
Speed Density mode is preferred by most tuners when tuning high performance engines with large camshafts or forced induction. The MAF is removed (or disabled) and the PCM is tuned using the MAP sensor instead. Unfortunately, when the MAF is disconnected the stock PCM has been designed to go into a semi-limp mode (operating from the low octane spark map only). EFILive’s Speed Density Custom Operating System restores the high-octane spark map and full adaptive spark control, when operating in speed density mode.

Valet Mode
Valet mode provides a secondary rpm and speed limit that you can program into your PCM. When you flip a hidden switch, connected directly to the PCM, the vehicle is restricted to the preset valet RPM and speed limits. (This option is not compatible with N2O Control)

Two Step Launch Control
This custom operating system is an adaptation of the Valet Mode RPM limiter. No need for add on boxes, use the PCM to accurately control launching (This option is not compatible with N2O Control).

2 and 3 bar Forced Induction
2 and 3 bar Forced Induction extends the fuel and spark tables to allow the PCM total control over spark and fuel all the way to full boost. EFILive retains the standard fuel and spark tables for non-boost conditions retaining factory drivability and adds new tables for boost control.

N2O Control
N2O Control monitors the N2O system and signals the PCM when it becomes active. Extra spark and fuel calibrations are available to modify the PCM’s spark timing and fuel delivery immediately the N2O system is activated. (This option is not compatible with Valet Mode or Two Step Launch Control)

 

GM Diesel Custom Operating Systems:

DSP4 - suitable for E98 2.8L Duramax.
DSP4 allows users to switch on the fly between 4 user defined tunes.   Users can change a selected range of parameters that include Boost Levels, Injection and Timing – the key parameters to gain performance or economy from your multiple tunes. 

In addition to switching via FlashScan V2 or AutoCal, integration of EFILive's proprietary DSP4 custom operating system is designed to function with licensed ancillary products provided by licensed distributors.

 

DSP5 - suitable for LB7, LLY, LBZ and LMM Duramax.
DSP5 allows users to switch on the fly between 5 user defined tunes.   Users can change a selected range of parameters that include Boost Levels, Injection and Timing – the key parameters to gain performance or economy from your multiple tunes.  In addition to applying EFILive’s DSP5 custom operating system, specific switching methods must be installed by the user.

LB7/LLY

Customers have the option to either install a 5 position resistance switch, or switch tunes via their FlashScan V2 or AutoCal interface.  Switching via FlashScan V2 or AutoCal eliminates the need to install a 5 position resistance switch. The user can even name the tune to be displayed on the V2 interface for easy reference.  Switching techonology is also supported on external partner products such as the Edge CTS monitor.

LBZ/LMM

Customers MUST install a 5 position resistance switch,  Switching via FlashScan V2, AutoCal or external partner products is NOT supported.

 

DSP² - suitable for LB7 and LLY Duramax.
DSP² allows users to switch on the fly between 2 user defined tunes.   In addition to applying EFILive’s DSP² custom operating system, users need to install a Single Throw Toggle switch to the ECM.  

Users can change a selected range of parameters that include Boost Levels, Injection and Timing – the key parameters to gain performance or economy from your multiple tunes.

 

Valet Mode - suitable for LB7 and LLY Duramax.
Valet mode provides a secondary rpm and speed limit that you can program into your PCM. When you flip a hidden switch, connected directly to the PCM, the vehicle is restricted to the preset valet RPM and speed limits.  (This option is not compatible with DSP²).

 

Dodge Cummins Diesel Custom Operating Systems:

CSP5 - suitable for 06-16 Cummins. 

CSP5, EFILive's custom operating system for all supported Cummins ECM's allows customers to switch 'on the fly' between a number of different tunes, all stored in the ECM's flash memory.    By having multiple tunes instantly accessible, customers no longer need to re-flash their ECM to change their tunes to suit changing conditions (e.g. racing, towing or power limiting). Simply build up your tunes, flash the ECM once and then select your desired tune through your EFILive hardware (or other approved switching devices) at any time.

Historically, Cummins Switchable Performance had 5 tune positions; however as supported Cummins platforms have expanded this no longer holds true. ECM memory now defines the number of tunes that are available for switching for each ECM type as per the table below.   

 

 

Whilst different controllers contain different numbers of tunes, the key tuning parameters have been preserved across all supported platforms allowing a range of tuning strategies to still be used to achieve desired results. 

Enhanced Data Acquisition (EDA), revolutionizes the way customers scan and log data. Exclusive to EFILive, EDA aims to simplify the task of logging by creating a single group of 45 parameters hand selected by tuners as essential tuning feedback items. Some EDA parameters are not even available on the Dealership scan-tool.  With logging speeds of up to 50 frames per second and each frame containing 45 data parameters, this enhancement is the envy of every other Cummins data logging system in existence, including earlier versions of our own software. EDA's speed and data selection is simply unparalleled, with most other scan-tools lucky to get just 15 (not so useful) SAE PID's at 12 frames per second.

EDA scanning is only available on CSP5 upgraded ECM's using FlashScan V2 or AutoCal hardware.

In addition to switching via FlashScan V2 or AutoCal, integration of EFILive's proprietary CSP5 custom operating system is designed to function only with licensed ancillary products provided by licensed distributors.  Only licensed distributors are approved by EFILive and have the rights to provide the ancillary products to CSP5.  All software is copyright protected.  EFILive recommends that customers confirm that their chosen ancillary product is licensed for distribution and use.  EFILive’s current licensed distributors can be found here.
