GM Controller Authorization

Prior to reading or flashing any controller, the EFILive software performs a security negotiation with the controller for permission to access the controller. In the past, the security negotiations were implemented using a simple challenge-response process.

In 2017 GM began modernizing and hardening their controllers' security negotiations which is now far more complex and virtually impossible to automate within the EFILive software. This means the end user must now concern themselves with the security negotiations prior to reading or flashing one of these new controllers.

The Device Settings options have recently changed to accommodate customers who program multiple AutoCal devices while FlashScan V2 remains connected.  Users now have the option to setup the Device Settings to only program AutoCal (or FlashScan) to ensure the chosen device is programmed and not the most recently connected device.

To assist tuners who support remote users, EFILive has added the option to automatically save a trace file if/when black box reading or flashing fails.  Available in EFILive Beta 3 software release (or later), the auto-save feature is enabled by default.  If/when BBR or BBF fails, the trace file is automatically generated and saved onto the FlashScan V2/AutoCal device provided enough space exists on the devices [Data] file system.  Users can retrieve the trace file using EFILive Explorer.
