AutoCal VIN License Capacity

10 November 2016

Historically AutoCal has been limited to 8 VIN Licenses. For many tuners who use AutoCal to provide tunes for their customers' personal vehicles, one VIN slot is plenty. For those remaining tuners where 8 VIN licenses is not enough, EFILive is pleased to announce an increase in AutoCal's license capacity from 8 to 221, to match the existing limit in FlashScan devices.

2017 Vehicle Support

31 October 2016

With the constant evolution of computer technology and the ever changing automotive regulations and standards, it comes as no surprize that automakers are constantly updating their engines, transmissions, associated controllers along with controller security.

The last 12-18 months has seen GM release three new Gas ECM's and one new TCM, and a complete overhaul of controller security on existing GM controllers for the 2017 model year. EFILive has worked tirelessly to deliver our customers support for new controllers and redesign support for existing controllers as changes are released.

Historically when an un-linked AutoCal device performed its first controller flash, it would automatically link itself to the Master FlashScan device that created the file being flashed, thereby linking itself to that master FlashScan. That automatic linking is no longer supported and will not occur under any circumstances.

EFILive has replaced this process with a new [Generate Remote-Link Code] option managed in the same location as the Physical Link AutoCal process in the EFILive Control Panel -> [F7: Licensing] menu.

GM Controller Authorization

26 September 2016

Prior to reading or flashing any controller, the EFILive software performs a security negotiation with the controller for permission to access the controller. In the past, the security negotiations were implemented using a simple challenge-response process.

In 2017 GM began modernizing and hardening their controllers' security negotiations which is now far more complex and virtually impossible to automate within the EFILive software. This means the end user must now concern themselves with the security negotiations prior to reading or flashing one of these new controllers.
